What is an esthetician and a facial?

Updated: Mar 30, 2022

What is an esthetician? An esthetician is a licensed professional who specializes in the beautification of the skin. We are are not medical doctors; instead, we perform cosmetic skin treatments, such as facials, superficial chemical peels, body treatments, and waxing.

How is an esthetician different from a dermatologist? A dermatologist is a licensed board certified medical doctor, trained in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of skin-related diseases. Estheticians are limited to services that don’t puncture the skin’s surface. Dermatologists, on the other hand, can prescribe medication and treat skin concerns through surgery or cosmetic procedures.

What is a facial? A facial is a multi-step skin treatment that cleanses, exfoliates, and nourishes the skin. This promotes a clear, well-hydrated complexion and can help your skin look younger. I recommend that clients have facials once a month, because nothing you do at home can replace professional treatments. Treat yourself to a minimum of 6 facials per year and stay consistent with your skincare. Before you know it you will start noticing results in 6 weeks.
